Samsung My Knox encrypts a device's data to provide advanced security features. Encryption makes it almost impossible for unauthorized users to access a given device. Also, the app provides a number of other security features, including file locking and unlocking. Samsung developed the app specifically for Samsung devices. Devices from other manufacturers typically cannot download, install, and run Samsung My Knox.
After installing the application, the app prompts users to grant various permissions. Samsung My Knox requests most phone permissions in order to encrypt the device. The smartphone or tablet will then restart with full encryption enabled. At that point, individual users can utilize their device without doing anything else. Most users will want to dive into the other features within the app, though.
Samsung My Knox allows users to lock and unlock their files at will. This allows users to protect the files with a password or fingerprint. While a file is locked, unauthorized users cannot access the file in any capacity. Such a useful security feature provides another layer of protection from prying eyes. Most of the features found within Samsung My Knox run automatically in the background, and little user input is required here.
Currently, My Knox no longer receives official support from Samsung for various reasons. Android OS now includes native support for encryption and has for a few years. Samsung implemented an updated version of Knox into all of its smartphones as well. Now Samsung My Knox is a redundant app that's limited in comparison to other solutions. Nonetheless, the app helped set the foundation for Samsung's excellent security features available today.
